Insomnia, Part 4

The acupuncture has relieved a great deal of the pressure and the pain. However, a great deal isn’t ALL of it. So, here I am, up at 3:30, for the 4th night in a row.

I might go back for one more treatment Saturday… I just want normal sleep and to feel 100% pain free and be able to breathe normally. Breathing IS kind of important, you know?

So, I have had sinus infections before. Many, many sinus infections, and while they are a pain in the ass, the pain in my sinuses has never been what I would consider excruciating before this. Strong pressure, yes. Exhaustion, yes. But making me want to amputate my face?? Never before this.

I am on day 3 of this, and it is not getting any better. I did go to my PCP yesterday, and he gave my antibiotics. So far, I am not seeing any improvement, although I did sleep (on and off) for a little over 5 hours last night, which is an improvement over the night before. He couldn’t give me ANYTHING else, of course, so I am moving to plan B for the pain: Acupuncture. I have been open to this option for a while, but other than childbirth or a marathon, I have never been in this much pain. Those were worse (of course), but they also didn’t last this long.

So, at 8, I will be calling a place I found on CitySearch. We’ll see how it goes. There were so many options, which is amazing to me, but this is one of the benefits of living in a town still connected to its liberal, hippy roots.

Can’t blame either child for this one. Severe sinus pain on right side of face. Throbbing teeth. Massive headache. Middle of “ice storm 2009″. Middle of the night. Praying for relief.

Things that kept me up last night (not my Charlie):

1. My little man has an ear infection, and this is why he has not been sleepy and has been MOST crabby (I am officially an asshole)
2. My allergies and stopped up nose.
3. My taxes for 2008, which are not done. Why must I wait for W-2s? This makes me nuts. Every year this makes me nuts.
4. Am I retarded? I thought the baby was kicking me at one point, only to feel nothing since. I hope everything is all right?
5. Am I running enough? Two times a week seems a little weak. Or am I running too much? Maybe I shouldn’t be doing this at all and I have permanently damaged this poor dizzy fetus bouncing up and down in my uterus. (This is also, mind you, the same reason I can’t bring myself to hula hoop on the Wii Fit anymore. Damn you, paranoia!)
6. New president! Today! Please fix the economy, STAT, Mr. Obama.
7. Is Charlie sleeping? I think he is going to sleep! MIRACLE! But I think he will be in here any minute, so I will stay awake.
8. Is this baby a girl or a boy? Should I have gone ahead and wasted the $30 on Intelligender at HEB last night?
9. How will I tell my family the sex when/if we find out?
10. When can I get up and start working on our taxes?

Terrible allergies?

CHECK.

Toddler up for 3+ hours last night. After his parents returned him to his room about 17 times, Daddy finally decides to sleep on the couch so we could all get some rest?

CHECK.

Realizing your 2.5 year old is one of the worst sleepers, ever?

CHECK.

Waking up and realizing that it is too late to drive downtown to get an amazing cinnamon roll from Upper Crust Bakery?

CHECK.

Starting the day off cranky, again, that you are forced to live in the suburbs?

CHECK.

Wondering if a night of 1 hour of sleep, then 4 hours of sleep (after a 3 hour hiatus), might actually kill your 15 week old fetus?

CHECK.

Nerdiness rears its ugly head

So, I admit, with pregnancy, as with ALL things, I am really just a big giant dork. I have to read everything I can get my hands on, pregnancy-related. Books, magazines, the Internet (of course)… As soon as I hit that next week marker (15 weeks! Tomorrow!) I am investigating again.

The frustrating thing is the information, from RELIABLE sources, and how it is often contradictory. You might be feeling your baby this week! You WON’T feel your baby for several weeks! This is fine! No, this is BAD. You may be able to determine the sex this week! You won’t be able to determine the sex for several weeks!

Frustrating, of course, especially when you just want a definitive answer.

The funny thing is the stuff it leads to on the message boards. I know that you are pretty much likely to see anything on these things, and you have to take it with a grain of salt. Of course. But for shear comedic value, the pregnancy message boards can’t be beat.

Just this week, on the July ’09 message boards, I saw this message (but I paraphrase, with appropriate grammar):

OMG, I ate a greek salad! With feta cheese! Is my baby dead?

So. Yeah.

I really can’t believe that I am going to have a newborn again in 6 months. This is a fairly terrifying thought.

It struck me that I never uploaded the adorableness that is my Charlie’s Christmas pic. Et voila! Here it is.

I ordered TWO pregnancy workout videos from Amazon. I have tried the first one so far. While I can’t say it is exactly HARD, it did get me off of the couch (and out of Bowl Mania 2009) for approximately 40 minutes. Which ain’t bad. I can see how it will be a lot more challenging once the bellah develops (and it is coming, I know it).

The one resolution I have honed so far is this: to stop looking like such a sloth every day. (This is a selfish one, I know, but honestly, would it kill me to try just a LITTLE bit?) My skin has been nuts during the first trimester (obviously–this happens to everyone). Especially my face and neck (ick, I know). So, to this end, my Christmas present from Mister Chuck is an organic facial. This afternoon. We’ll see how it goes.

I think my new year’s resolution is to stop being such a bitchy pregnant person. I was so sweet and happy when pregnant with Charlie-Boo, but also less tired, I suppose.
